There’s nothing like the low-tech thrill of a slip’n’slide!
That elemental joy of gliding on a slippery surface,
Getting a running start, and throwing the body down
In a variety of configurations
“I’m going to do the surfer,” cries Madison, sliding on her feet.
Cooper does “the monk,” sliding on his knees,
Upper body bowed down, hands praying in front.
Jake slides too fast, like he’s power-skating for hockey,
And crashes into the bumper at the end!
Nina likes to slide flat-out on her stomach, arms extended forward,
Trying to hit any bystanding boys as she shoots by.
She also likes to stamp repeatedly on the hose part
To make the water pulsate up and down.
Memories of wanting to slide on freshly polished linoleum,
Being told “don’t run,” or “don’t jump on the bed!”
The thrill of bouncing and sliding,
And nobody even telling you not to do it!!
