Jake says to me
“You’re the best mom in the world!”
At least once a day.
I always feel like saying,
“You’ve got to be kidding!”
It throws me into guilt
Because my shortcomings
Are all too apparent to me.
But I refrain from self-deprecation,
And gradually feel his comment
Pulling me up, up, up
A little higher, straighter, better.
More patient, helpful, cheerful.
Less self-centered, angry, gloomy.
